The A Position Growing Faster Than
The Rough at Pebble Beach
PORTLAND, Ore., May 20, 2010 - The A Position—a linked network of websites providing well-researched, imaginative, and insightful writing about golf, travel, and related subjects—announced the signing of its 31st writer this week.
According to Executive Editor Jeff Wallach, “What began with eight renowned journalists has surged in less than six months to encompass a cadre of more than two dozen of the best writers in the business, plus a handful of talented teachers providing written and video golf instruction. Our portfolio includes thousands of stories and videos—many of which are brand new, and others that have appeared in the best newspapers and magazines in the world.”
The A Position’s business model includes establishing content partnerships with golf courses and resorts, golf management companies, hotel companies, airlines, equipment manufacturers, visitor’s bureaus, PR firms, custom travel providers, and others. These partners get access to high-quality content that is relevant to their own clientele. For example, a consortium of golf courses and hotels in Mexico is able to use excerpts of A Position stories about the destination on their websites, in email offers to past and potential visitors, and in other ways.
A Position Senior Advisor James A. Frank—formerly editor of such publications as GOLF Magazine and the prestigious Golf Connoisseur—says, “There’s been a noticeable absence of smart, high-quality writing about golf during the last few years. The A Position is filling that void. This group of journalists is trying to raise the bar.”
The A Position’s newest journalists include former PGA TOUR staffer Michael Patrick Shiels, now a syndicated television and radio host who also collaborated on books with Donald Trump, Larry King, Arthur Hills, and Ben Wright; Robert Cullen, who co-wrote a series of best-selling instructional books with Bob Rotella and was a former contributing editor at Travel + Leisure Golf; and Anita Draycott, an award-winning Toronto-based journalist who is managing editor of GolfStyle and editor of the Canadian Travel Guides.
The A Position continues to add writers of the caliber and credentials of its current members, as well as content partners who place a high value on fresh, well-crafted journalism. Wallach adds, “In the case of The A Position, more is better—the more talented writers that we have in our network, the more great content our partners and readers can access, about a variety of subjects related to golf and travel. We’ll keep adding to our roster as long as we can find journalists whose skills we admire.”
The term “the A position” refers to the best place a golfer can land his tee shot on a golf hole; as the brand name of the company’s websites, it suggests the place readers will want to land for great golf and travel journalism.
