The last stop on our trip, myself and the other Golf Road Warriors spent the day playing Desert Pines Golf Club. A country club style course situated only 15 minutes from the Vegas strip. The course is stunning, with a feel of the Carolinas, beautiful white sand bunkers, surrounded with lush pine trees and undulated greens. The course was designed by Pete Dye, who is known for his unique style, fully equipped with railroad ties guarding the bunkers and hill covered fairways. It was a pleasure to play all three of the Walters Golf properties and Desert Pines is the perfect ending to a golf vacation.
As a women in male dominated sport, I have witnessed the challenges men must face when a women plays from the same tees and dominates. Getting out drove off the tee, lower scores, and the bruising of their egos is not an experience any man would want to go through. Desert Pines was gracious enough to put together a Big Break style challenge for the Golf Road Warriors, where we hit bunker shots from numerous challenging positions.
Desert Pines was the host site for Season II of the Big Break, and as a former Big Breaker, I was made aware that I was the favorite in this little competition of 3 men vs. myself. Thinking the pressure situations I experienced on the Big Break would be enough to secure a win, I was sadly mistaken. Jeff Wallach, founder of Golf Road Warriors stepped up like a champ and dominated the bunker challenges. It’s safe to say, next time I’ll have to come more prepared!
Enjoyable as it was challenging, I loved my time playing Desert Pines and look forward to playing there my next trip back to Sin City!
