Our culture has become linguistically lazy, throwing around superlatives with the abandon of a cranky toddler hurling Fruit Loops at his mother. Rampant overuse of descriptors like “great” and “awesome” have watered down their impact. It’s a shame, because every once in a while, those words need to be applied and fully appreciated by the audience.
Some subjects truly are great, awesome, and sensational. This is one of those times.
This is Salish Cliffs Golf Club, located just minutes from downtown Seattle. You MUST come to this (insert superlative here, here, and here) slice of heaven in the Pacific Northwest.
To be candid, I was’t especially enthused at the idea of a cross-country flight to play golf. My home state offers a tremendous menu of summertime golf, so why would I want to travel to the opposite corner of the map for more of the same?
Wisely, my new friends at Salish Cliffs dangled an additional carrot by including a round at Chambers Bay as part of our itinerary. Little did I know that they were a million steps ahead of me in the wisdom behind that schedule.
Why? Because within minutes of setting foot on the property at Salish Cliffs (part of the Little Creek Casino Resort), it was clear that the highlight of this journey wasn’t the chance to play a U.S. Open venue. Instead, the vibrant memories of my time near Seattle would be focused on Salish Cliffs.
This golf course, this place, and the kind, helpful, welcoming staff have me continually invoking multiple superlatives even weeks after my visit. It truly is great, awesome, and sensational. You’ll see for yourself when you make the journey. Until then, here’s mine…
