Tiger Woods received an extremely favorable ruling from the PGA Tour during the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship, Friday.<\/p>\n
This from PGATour.com: 1:05 p.m. \u2013<\/em><\/strong> Mark Russell, the vice president for rules and competitions for the PGA TOUR, made the ruling that gave Tiger Woods a free drop at the fifth hole. He said fans saw the ball bounce in an area of what he called \u201cbasically bare ground\u201d and then surround it \u2014 but the ball was nowhere to be found. \u201cJust looking at that area, it\u2019s basically bare ground and trampled down pine needles,\u201d Russell said. \u201cIf it had been deep mulch or pine needles it would have been a different situation. Based on the evidence there it looked like to me somebody picked up the ball.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Interesting that the assumption was that the golf ball was picked up and not, perhaps, inadvertently kicked into in a area that was not searched. Not the kind of ruling that would hold up in a court of law.
