Few people ever study the art of putting or spend time on the practice green honing their skills despite the knowledge that the putter is THE scoring club.\u00a0\u00a0 According to Editor David DeNunzio, all great putters understand that ‘putting is the difference between good scores and winning scores.’<\/em>‘\u00a0 With the subtitle ‘The 10 Brightest Minds in Putting Show You How to Make the Hole Look Bigger and Sink More Putts’, those who haven’t figured out the reasons they cannot putt will now comprehend why. <\/em><\/p>\n

When studying this book, the first thing you should know up front\u00a0is that you cannot possibly grasp all of the information presented at one sitting. \u00a0 This is not a ‘quick fix’ tome, though there is an additional bonus attached to the back cover: a CD with 10 Instant Putting Fixes courtesy of a few of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 teachers.\u00a0 Instead, search through the various areas of expertise of the selected instructors, though many names may not be familiar to you;\u00a0 then, ponder what you’d like to improve about your own putting, scanning the chapters to\u00a0zone in on your particular putting malady.\u00a0\u00a0 If you do, this book will truly be a valuable asset to help eliminate unnecessary strokes on the short grass.<\/p>\n

The book is broken down into 10 Chapters, each authored by an individual expert.\u00a0 Every chapter includes the instructor’s mini-Bio, ‘All About Me’, as well as an appealing ‘5 Things I’ll Teach You in this Chapter’ – which is perfect for browsing your own individual needs for putting.\u00a0\u00a0 One interesting note is that not every expert is a PGA or LPGA teaching professional.\u00a0 In fact, one ‘instructor’ is an amateur.\u00a0 Following is a brief synopsis of each chapter:<\/p>\n

Chapter 1: How to Pick the Right Putter<\/strong>;\u00a0 Master Fitter David Edel is a PGA teaching professional and club\u00a0manufacturer who begins by questioning how the average golfer might haphazardly select a putter.\u00a0 Read on for three components to successful putting and how a simple change in putters can produce stellar results.<\/p>\n

Chapter 2: Building the Perfect Stance<\/strong>;\u00a0 Balance Expert and Ph.D. David Wright is also a GOLF Magazine<\/em> Top-100 teacher.\u00a0 Some say stance doesn’t matter……but Wright teaches\u00a0why understanding an individual’s biomechanics of balance, certainly does.<\/p>\n

Chapter 3: How to Calibrate Your Stroke<\/strong>;\u00a0 PGA Professional, GOLF Magazine <\/em>Top-100 and Golf Digest <\/em>Top-50 <\/em> Instructor Mike Adams has authored 12 golf instruction books.\u00a0 The good news is that Adams allows you to combine your natural putting style along with putting mechanics you can <\/em>live with.<\/p>\n

Chapters 4 and 5 deal with two separate types of strokes.\u00a0\u00a0 What, you didn’t know there were two<\/em> kinds?\u00a0 Former PGA Touring Pro and GOLF Magazine <\/em>Top-100 and Golf Digest<\/em> Top-50 teacher Stan Utley takes you through Mastering the ARC Stroke<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 LPGA Tour 3-time winner Maggie Will teaches how Mastering the Brush Stroke<\/strong> can lead to a more consistent stroke – and clears up some common putting misconceptions.<\/p>\n

Chapter 6: Read Greens Like a Pro<\/strong>; you may want to begin with this chapter to jump-start your putting quest.\u00a0\u00a0 Most people have no clue how to read greens and any player can learn something here.\u00a0 Mark Sweeney ‘The Green Machine’ and lone amateur will take you on this ride of swales and dips and turf and grain.<\/p>\n

Chapter 7: How to Aim at the Right Spot<\/strong>;\u00a0\u00a0 how many times have you played in pro-ams or scrambles where it is obvious your first putter is aimed all wrong, he or she misses by a mile, then exclaims “I pushed it!!’\u00a0 This book is worth buying if only for gaining the insight presented in Chapters 6 and 7.\u00a0\u00a0 Join PGA Professional and Aiming Expert Mike Shannon who shares this gem, which of course, you always knew: “over 92% of all the putts you’ll face in your golfing lifetime will feature some amount of break.”\u00a0\u00a0 Are you a linear\/analytical putter?\u00a0 Or maybe a feel\/non-linear putter?\u00a0 Pick one.\u00a0 Shannon says you cannot be both.<\/p>\n

Chapter 8: Golf’s Best Kept Secret: The Long Putter<\/strong>;\u00a0 with an intriguing middle moniker, PGA Pro and GOLF Magazine <\/em>Top-100 teacher Scott ‘Money’ Munroe\u00a0indicates that switching to a long putter might not be\u00a0solely for old fogeys or golfers with bad backs.\u00a0 He also includes an excellent sidebar: ‘The 10 Rules of Being a Money Putter’.<\/p>\n

Chapter 9:\u00a0 How to Practice for Improvement<\/strong>;\u00a0 just as beating balls endlessly and aimlessly on a driving range does nothing to improve your game and actually only strengthens weaknesses, Dr. Craig Farnsworth, AKA The Putt Doctor has shared his methods with over 90% of PGA Tour pros as well as the\u00a0U.S. Secret Service, members of the Armed Forces, and U.S. Air Marshals.\u00a0\u00a0 Do you really want all of those folks knowing information you<\/em> don’t?<\/p>\n

Chapter 10:\u00a0 How to Fix Your Worst Flaws<\/strong>;\u00a0 golfers all make mistakes but it’s the major flaws that will devastate your game.\u00a0 Identifying these errors is\u00a0paramount and Marius Filmalter, the ‘Research Brain’ will help you analyze what and why.\u00a0\u00a0 Winner of GOLF Magazine’s<\/em> 2009 Innovator Award and co-inventor of the SAMPutt Lab and TOMI, a digital stroke analysis system, Filmalter’s 30-plus pro pupils include Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Trevor Immelman, and Y.E. Yang.\u00a0 A while back when Tiger was putting well, he asked Filmalter to “put me on the machine and save the results.”\u00a0 Says Filmalter “in order to get where you want to be, you must know where you are.”<\/p>\n
