The European Tour heads back to the African Continent this week for the Joburg Open. Since its inauguration back in 2007 the Joburg Open has only been won twice by non South African players and I feel we will again see a home victory again here this week, hence the fact only one of my tips is a non South African player.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club came into being after a merger of the former Royal Johannesburg Golf Club and the former Kensington Golf Club in 1998. The improvements to the Clubhouse and both courses at Royal Johannesburg were funded by the sale of the Kensington property.<\/p>\n

The result is two outstanding courses with superb facilities. The Johannesburg Golf Club was founded on 6 November 1890 where members of the (Johannesburg Golf) Club first began playing \u201cbehind Hospital Hill\u201d in an area that later became known as Clarendon Circle and Empire Road.<\/p>\n

The rapid development of the city has seen the club move four times before finally settling in 1909 on the land it occupies today. During a visit to Johannesburg in 1930, the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VIII, played the course. Six months later he agreed to become its patron. In July 1931 a letter was received confirming that King George V had graciously consented to the \u201cRoyal\u201d prefix being added to the club\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

My tips to win:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

George Coetzee 14\/1 \u2013 with StanJames \u2013<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0is the defending champion this week, but it\u2019s not been the greatest of years so far for the lad from Pretoria, with two missed cuts this year and only a Top 12 finish at the Qatar Masters of any real note on the European Tour. He finished with a Top 16 on the Sunshine Tour last weekend, but having not been outside the Top 12 here since 2011 – which includes a win, a Top 5 and a Top 10, I think we will see the real George Coetzee this week.<\/p>\n

Golf Monthly playing editor\u00a0Andy Sullivan 16\/1 \u2013 with Bet365 \u2013<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0should be another player that comes into this week in confident mood with a win and another Top 5 finish at the Dubai Desert Classic, and after having had a couple of weeks break should be refreshed and ready to go again. Andy has played in this event three times now and every year he has progressed from missing the cut, to making the cut and with last year\u2019s Top 5, so obviously this year he should\u2026<\/p>\n

Thomas Aiken 25\/1 \u2013 with BetVictor \u2013<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0has never quite managed to get it over the line at the Joberg Open, he has been outside of the Top 25 once since 2009 and in that time he\u2019s had three Top 6 finishes in the last four years. Aiken also had a recent Top 5 finish at the South African Open and another Top 10 finish at the Dubai Desert Classic and although he missed the cut on the Sunshine Tour last weekend I expect him to be challenging on a course he loves playing on this week.<\/p>\n

Jaco Van Zyl 45\/1 \u00a9 Kevin Murray<\/p><\/div>\n

My each-way tips:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Another player that seems to enjoy the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington GC is\u00a0Jaco Van Zyl 45\/1 \u2013 with StanJames \u2013<\/span><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and although he has never really challenged for the title he has only been outside the Top 25 here once since 2009 and has four Top 12 finishes during that time, including a third place in 2012. Jaco has shoot a 64 round this track and coming into this week on a back of a third place finish in last week\u2019s Sunshine Tour event should see him tee it up in confident mood this week.<\/p>\n

Another player who has progressed each year he\u2019s played in the event is\u00a0Danie Van Tonder 40\/1 \u2013 with SportingBet \u2013<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0who first played in this event after turning pro in 2011. He missed the cut the first two times he teed it up here then followed up with a Top 20 the third time he played in the event and last year had a Top 10, hopefully we will see that progression continue this week and with a third place finish in last week\u2019s Sunshine tour event he will be in confident mood this week.<\/p>\n

Keith Horne 66\/1 \u2013 with BetFred \u2013<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>had a good a runners-up finish on the Sunshine Tour last week and should be another player that comes into this week\u2019s tournament in confident mood. Keith does have a fairly good record in this event with a runners-up finish back in 2010 when he fired a final round 64 that saw him storm up the leaderboard. Keith also had a Top 6 place here two years ago again firing a final round 65, hopefully he will be repeating that feat come next Sunday.<\/p>\n
