The most noticeable change is the moving of the par-4 17th fairway to the left, which brings the canyon more into play and there are new championship tees stretching the course to 7,765 yards.<\/p>\n<p>The South course at Torrey Pines was designed by William F Bell and opened for play in 1957. Rees Jones was commissioned to undertake a redesign in 2001 so the course would be ready for the 2008 US Open Championship.
