The original course was updated four times before the present course, designed by William Flynn and built by Dick Wilson opened for play in 1931.<\/p>\n<p>The course utilises the natural topography of the Shinnecock Hills and is based on links courses in Britain and Ireland but the fairways and greens have a more inland\/heathland feel to them.
