\"\"<\/a>\u201cGolf\u2019s Ultimate Eighteen\u201d follows in a long theme of golf books highlighting an eclectic grouping of eighteen \u201cfavorite\u201d holes by high-profile golf professionals.\u00a0 This author\u2019s grouping includes Palmer and Nicklaus along with a lone woman, LPGA member, Amy Alcott.\u00a0 I love such books and picking up the smartly illustrated piece, I eagerly started perusing it.\u00a0 What a disappointment. \u201cGolf\u2019s Ultimate Eighteen\u201d may be the most poorly edited piece I have seen in many years.<\/p>\n

I do not make these allegations lightly.\u00a0 Sellers Publishing appears to have hastily assembled \u201cGolf\u2019s Ultimate Eighteen\u201d merely as a Holiday Season moneymaker.\u00a0 Here\u2019s part of the evidence:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 Augusta National\u2019s 12th<\/sup> hole features a mislabeled picture of the 13th<\/sup> green.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 The picture of the 14th<\/sup> green at Muirfield Village is reversed as a mirror image.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 A Ray Floyd quote regarding the 13th<\/sup> at Shinnecock Hills is inserted in the Kenny Perry section on the 14th<\/sup> at Muirfield Village.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 The hole diagram of the tenth at Riviera twice mistakenly identifies an adjacent practice putting surface as the hole\u2019s green.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 Thirty-three separate words have no spacing between them.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0 The unlabeled picture depicting the 17th<\/sup> at The Old Course is actually of another hole, and the hole\u2019s yardage listed is already out-of-date.\u00a0 It is 495 yards, not 461.<\/p>\n

I actually enjoyed the attractive pictures of the highlighted holes, and with this kind of compilation it is always fun to debate what holes are selected.\u00a0 I was surprised to discover the 13th<\/sup> hole at Shinnecock Hills (Ray Floyd) featured when there is the 13th<\/sup> at Augusta National, but remember that this was supposedly the player\u2019s favorite holes. \u00a0I have never seen the 13th hole at Shinnecock Hills highlighted in any work; it is usually the 14th<\/sup> at Shinnecock that is included among notable holes (or maybe the author couldn\u2019t come up with a better hole choice from a celebrated player).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Regardless, it was fun to see the hole examined for a change of pace. I was likewise surprised that no one picked the 8th<\/sup> at Pebble Beach, called by many the best or favorite par-four in the world.\u00a0 Otherwise, the inclusions pretty much include the usual suspects.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, I found little if anything new in the text that hasn\u2019t already been presented in the past.\u00a0 Next the binding, printing, and paper quality don\u2019t, in my opinion, warrant the retail pricing of $34.95.\u00a0 Finally, as already mentioned, there are simply too many critical mistakes for me to recommend this book.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
