There are \u201cThe Twelve Days of Christmas,\u201d so why not \u201cThe Twelve Days of Bob Fagan?\u201d\u00a0 Most of my life for some sage reasons, I\u2019ve been pretty reluctant to share my golf opinions, but that doesn\u2019t mean I don\u2019t have them.\u00a0 Now time is running out for me, and maybe for the game I love as well.\u00a0 For the next dozen days I will cut loose with 10 opinions daily that previously I\u2019ve kept mostly to myself.\u00a0 While there will be some controversial ones that may offend a few, they are based on what I have observed as a player of nearly fifty years and working in the business for twenty.\u00a0 Here it goes\u2026<\/p>\n
1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Golf is the most \u201cover-taught\u201d sport in human existence \u2013 a contributing reason why so many frustrated people are leaving the game.<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There have been some funny golf movies (love Caddyshack), but not yet a truly great one.<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tiger Woods is at the same time a most exemplary golfer and, at the same time, a least exemplary individual.\u00a0 I formed that opinion after<\/em> he returned to competition for reasons that are not directly related to his extramarital activities.\u00a0 Hopefully someday his actions will make me think better of him as a person, and I sincerely wish him the best.<\/p>\n 4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If the United States Golf Association ran Major League Baseball, baseball would be using aluminum bats.<\/p>\n 5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If you are young, old, or a good shot-maker, fourteen clubs are way too many.\u00a0 \u00a0And I will add most women to that list too, but I still need at least 16 or 17.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n 6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No one ever got a lasting game improvement from a magazine tip.<\/p>\n 7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Most golfers look like they\u2019re trying to kill snakes.<\/p>\n 8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Byron Nelson may have been golf\u2019s \u201cAll-Time Role Model.\u201d\u00a0 Unfortunately he\u2019s dead.<\/p>\n 9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A mediocre seaside or links course beats a good inland one every time.<\/p>\n 10.\u00a0\u00a0 We are all victims of our best shots and our worst memories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
