{"id":2221,"date":"2011-02-13T03:16:29","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T10:16:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/robertfagan.com\/?p=2221"},"modified":"2011-06-17T19:22:07","modified_gmt":"2011-06-18T02:22:07","slug":"slow-motion-play-in-golf-and-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/coaching\/golf-coaching\/2221\/slow-motion-play-in-golf-and-life","title":{"rendered":"Slow Motion Play in Golf and Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No, I am not suggesting that we play slower, but I am recommending that in the times we encounter stressful situations on the golf course that you resist the urge to rush or hurry your shots by <em>thinking<\/em> in <em>slow motion<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/02\/thinking.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2223\" src=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/02\/thinking-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>When you encounter a crucial shot be it on the first tee, some seemingly make or break situation during your round or the final putt, try to think of playing the entire shot in slow motion.\u00a0 That includes the entire process of selecting the club, getting set over the ball, waggling, and actually beginning the swing at what seems like half-speed.\u00a0 Try accompanying this with a slower deeper breath.\u00a0 This need not translate into slow play, but more about the image you are creating and try to <em>feel<\/em> in your mind.<\/p>\n<p>Slowing the pre-swing routine makes it easier to execute a smooth, intended swing freer of tension.\u00a0 Even at the top of your swing you might include a real or imaginary pause.\u00a0 All this helps you center yourself, and by concentrating on this special physical preparation you actually quiet the devastating &#8220;monkey talk&#8221; going on in your head.\u00a0 As far as the swing is then concerned you have prepared your balance, rhythm, and concentration in a prepared manner to execute the shot the way you intended.\u00a0 Add that all up and you have every reason to be even more confident &#8211; and centered confidence in the moment spells success in golf and beyond!<\/p>\n<p>The same lesson also applies in life.\u00a0 When you feel stress coming at you, slow down, look around, and take a deep breath.\u00a0 The old saying that haste makes waste runs true.\u00a0 Pause and savor the moment, and trust yourself to respond in the manner befitting your best self.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No, I am not suggesting that we play slower, but I am recommending that in the times we encounter stressful&#8230;
