{"id":4435,"date":"2011-07-06T01:02:02","date_gmt":"2011-07-06T08:02:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/robertfagan.com\/?p=4435"},"modified":"2025-03-18T23:35:22","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T06:35:22","slug":"tobuyorganicornot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/golf\/lifestyle\/4435\/tobuyorganicornot","title":{"rendered":"To Buy Organic or Not?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic-vs-conventional.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4437\" src=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic-vs-conventional.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic-vs-conventional.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic-vs-conventional-125x125.jpg 125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Buying organic fruits and vegetables can be very expensive, but a report issued by the President\u2019s Cancer Panel in 2010 recommended eating produce without pesticides to reduce the risk of cancer and other diseases.\u00a0 What do you do?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to the Environmental Working Group (a consortium of policymakers, scientists, and researchers), certain types of organic produce can reduce the amount of toxins you consume by as much as 80%.\u00a0 So which fruits and veggies are the most important ones to buy organic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The following is a recommendation made by Christa Orecchio, a Clinical Nutritionist and Holistic Health Counselor.\u00a0 She refers to the choices as \u201cThe Dirty Dozen\u201d and \u201cThe Clean Fifteen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4438\" src=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic.jpg 225w, https:\/\/theaposition.com\/robertfagan\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2011\/07\/organic-125x125.jpg 125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Dirty Dozen refer to those items you DO want to purchase ORGANIC.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Celery \u2026Peaches \u2026Domestic Blueberries \u2026Cherries \u2026Nectarines \u2026Potatoes \u2026Strawberries \u2026Sweet Bell Peppers \u2026Imported Grapes \u2026Apples \u2026Lettuce \u2026Spinach\/Kale\/Collard Greens.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Clean Fifteen refer to those items that are safer and NOT AS CRITICAL or necessary to purchase organic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Onions \u2026 Sweet Peas \u2026 Cantaloupes \u2026Avocados \u2026Asparagus \u2026Watermelon \u2026Sweet Corn \u2026Kiwi Fruit \u2026Grapefruit \u2026Pineapples \u2026Cabbage \u2026Sweet Potatoes \u2026Mangos \u2026Eggplants \u2026Sweet Onions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With regard to other fruits and vegetables, Orecchio recommends buying organic, but points out that one should consider the thickness of the out, protective layer of skin.\u00a0 For instance, a mushroom is like a sponge and soaks up everything so definitely buy organic.\u00a0 On the other hand, you will probably be okay not buying organic bananas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By all means, you should always wash all produce, but don\u2019t assume that washing will eliminate pesticides;
