As I wrote following the tournament in August: \u201cFor a debut tournament, it couldn\u2019t have gone much better for the event held at the fan- and player-friendly Blythefield Country Club\u2026especially with the affordable $15 any day ticket and with kids being admitted free with an adult.\u201d A stellar field laden with majors winners highlighted the week which ended in an exciting playoff win for rookie Mirim Lee over Inbee Park.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Colin Montgomerie wins his first \u201cmajor\u201d in SW Michigan. Monty shot a final round 6-under 65 for a four-stroke victory over Tom Watson at the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid at Harbor Shores GC in Benton Harbor. Equally impressive is the continued development of Harbor Shores itself, now a world-class 530-acre residential, golf and recreational community sending positive ripples across the area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Randy Lewis and Tom Werkmeister excel at USGA national tournaments. Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members, Lewis and Werkmeister reached the lofty semifinals of the U.S. Senior Amateur and U.S. Mid-Amateur respectively. Their outstanding play also contributed to eye strain as their many friends and followers happily logged on to hours of \u201clive scoring\u201d at usga.org<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brian Stuard\u2019s outstanding play on the PGA Tour. Earning over $1.8 million, Jackson native Stuard\u2019s year was highlighted by a solo second finish at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and playing in three of the four FedExCup Playoffs events before finishing 51st in the final FedExCup standings.\n<p><div id=\"attachment_1790\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/teemoore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2014\/12\/Michigan-pga-2014-final-177-300x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1790\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1790\" src=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/teemoore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2014\/12\/Michigan-pga-2014-final-177-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Scott Hebert\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theaposition.com\/teemoore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2014\/12\/Michigan-pga-2014-final-177-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theaposition.com\/teemoore\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2014\/12\/Michigan-pga-2014-final-177-300x200-90x60.jpg 90w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1790\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scott Hebert<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<li>Scott Hebert\u2019s 14th \u201cmajor.\u201d Pro at Grand Traverse Resort &amp; Spa, Hebert fires a 61 in one round, tying the modern tournament and course record, en route to his seventh Michigan PGA Championship at Oakland U\u2019s Sharf and Katke courses. It was Hebert\u2019s 14th \u201cmajor\u201d pro title in Michigan, one off the record of 15 major titles shared by Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members Al Watrous and J.R. Roth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Symetra Tour stops in June at Battle Creek and Harris, Michigan. A feeder Tour to the LPGA, Symetra nicely lifted the state\u2019s golf calendar with the $100K FireKeepers Casino Hotel event won by Min Seo Kwak at Battle Creek CC and the $125K Island Resort event at Sweetgrass won by Molly Aronsson. And next year over the 4th of July weekend, the Tullymore Classic debuts at Tullymore Golf Resort in Canadian Lakes. Michigan\u2019s Laura Keuny will be in the field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Matt Harmon wins on PGA Tour Canada Tour and later earns a Tour card. On May 19th at Travis Pointe CC, the Michigan Women\u2019s Golf Association (MWGA) staged a wonderful scramble and dinner event to honor the lasting contributions of Mary Fossum, Betty Richart and Shirley Spork. The \u201cpacked house\u201d event raised $28,000 for women\u2019s, girls\u2019 and collegiate golf in Michigan. Ever true to its slogan, the MWGA remains a \u201cdriving force for women\u2019s golf.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Henry Do wins the Michigan Amateur and his \u201cwow\u201d shot. With a spectacular birdie on the 18th hole while being one down in his match against Troy\u2019s Steve Andersen, Canton\u2019s Do goes on to win the Amateur title on the 19th hole at storied Belvedere CC in Charlevoix. Many observers and long time GAM officials said Do\u2019s soaring 180-yard 7-iron shot to within a foot on the 18th hole was the best shot ever seen under the circumstances at the Amateur.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ferris State University and the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame.
