Kaufman GC: One of jewels of public golf in the state<\/p><\/div>\n

Competitive senior golfers, 55 years of age and older, in the West Michigan area were happy to hear the news of the inaugural Kaufman Senior Amateur Chapionship set for Sept 11-12, 2021 at Kaufman GC in Wyoming.<\/p>\n

The 36-hole stroke play tournament, not restricted to any residency requirements, will have four age divisions: 55-59; 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and over. Those first three divisions will compete from the white tees at 6328 yards while the 70 & over will compete from the hybrid tees of 5759.<\/p>\n

With the field limited to the first 88 players who register, tee times will begin on Sept. 11-12 at 7:30 am. Sundays times and pairings will be based on divisions and Saturday\u2019s scores.<\/p>\n

The impetus of the new tournament according to Ben Rabourn, Kaufman Clubhouse Manager, came from course members. \u201cA couple of my members approached me and asked if Kaufman would host a senior event with appropriate tees and yardage. After the meeting, it was soon decided to do the tournament. We\u2019re planning to make it an annual event like the Kent County Amateur.\u201d<\/p>\n

Entry fee is $100 which covers cart, green fees and prizes. There will be an optional $20 skins game available, too. Considering the quality of the course\u2014long considered one of the jewels of public golf in the area\u2014the entry fee is a bargain. Weekend green and carts fees for two rounds would normally be $116.<\/p>\n

Tournament officials encourage those interested to sign up in person at the Kaufman clubhouse located at 4807 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming. Those outside the area, however, may call Kaufman with a credit card and register at 616-538-5050.<\/b><\/p>\n

Pairings and teetimes will be posted in the Kaufman clubhouse and on the Kaufman Facebook page the evening of Sept. 8. Kaufman GC is part of Kent County Parks.<\/p>\n
