Hotel de Paris and the Grand Casino in Monte Carlo and frequented by James Bond and the actors who play him.<\/p><\/div>\n

James Bond, Ian Fleming\u2019s licensed-to-kill secret agent, returns to movie screens Nov. 9 in \u201cSkyfall,\u201d the 23rd\u00a0film in the series. 007 has traveled the world, with the action this time spilling out in front of the actual MI6 headquarters (Her Majesty\u2019s Secret Service) on the Thames in London, as well as in Scotland, Shanghai, and Istanbul. Over 50 years, \u201cBond, James Bond,\u201d has outwitted villains in danger-laced locations like\u00a0Lebanon, Afghanistan,\u00a0Haiti,\u00a0North Korea,\u00a0Cuba, and\u00a0Uganda, but the films weren’t\u00a0actually shot there. There are, though, plenty of travel destinations where you can truly slink in the steps of actors Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig, and feel like you, too, are playing 007. Here are some of my favorites:<\/p>\n

-Casino\u00a0de Monte-Carlo,\u00a0Monaco: 1995\u2019s \u201cGoldeneye\u201d\u00a0featured the most glamorous location on the French Riviera, and 1983\u2019s \u201cNever Say Never Again\u201d had Connery tangoing with Kim Basinger in the atrium.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Former Bond Moore even calls\u00a0Monte Carlo\u00a0home, so play it up! Book the Garnier Suite at the adjacent Hotel de Paris, don a tuxedo, as I did, and settle in for a game of Chemin de Fer with a vodka martini at the 150-year-old, renovated palace. -Fontainebleau Hotel,\u00a0Miami Beach: A balcony at the historic, beachfront hotel on\u00a0Collins Ave.\u00a0allowed Connery\u2019s Bond, in 1964, to spy Auric Goldfinger\u2019s poolside Canasta cheating, which resulted in Goldfinger henchman Oddjob unforgettably suffocating Bond girl Jill Masterson by coating her in gold in her hotel suite. -Istanbul, Turkey\u2019s tourist favorites the Grand Bazaar and Byzantine Hagia Sophia were spectacular settings in 1963\u2019s \u201cFrom Russia with Love,\u201d and I stood at the very spot where Brosnan\u2019s Bond leapt from Maiden\u2019s Tower, a scenic icon in the middle of the Bosphorus River, in 1999\u2019s \u201cThe World is Not Enough.\u201d\u00a0www.VisitIstanbul.org<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

-Paradise\u00a0Island, near\u00a0Nassau, in the\u00a0Bahamas, was featured in 1965\u2019s \u201cThunderball\u201d and \u201cCasino Royale,\u201d in 2006, had Craig swimming offshore at the Ocean Club, where I sipped a \u201c007 Martini\u201d created by Brosnan himself while shooting another film at Atlantis Resort next door. -Fleming, an actual British intelligence officer, dreamed up 007 and wrote his Bond books at \u201cGoldeneye,\u201d his dream villa in Jamaica, which is now a resort. Stay in the \u201cFleming Villa,\u201d which contains the \u201c007 Master Suite,\u201d where you can use the original writing desk on which Bond\u2019s story was penned before you pop down to Fleming\u2019s private beach.
