Don’t forget the sun screen at the clothing-optional Caliente Spa and Resort near Tampa and in the Dominican Republic.<\/p><\/div>\n

Caliente Spa and Resort, near Tampa, is one destination where travelers don\u2019t mind so much if the airline loses their luggage. That\u2019s because Caliente is a \u201cclothing optional\u201d resort.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaliente translates to hot,\u201d says Deb Bowen, public relations manager for the property, which, indeed, basks its\u2019 glistening guests in the Florida sunshine. \u201cBring your sun screen but be sure to remember to apply it everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Caliente claims it\u2019s the \u201chottest party on the planet,\u201d and while it\u2019s own website depicts frolicking, nubile nudes, Bowen says today\u2019s society projects a \u201ctoo perfect\u201d image of what our bodies should look like, leaving men and women to feel self-conscious. Caliente\u2019s goal is to help people, age 21 and over, to be more natural and healthy and to help guests embrace the natural forms of themselves and others. But not a literal embrace. The overly affectionate will be sent to their rooms.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not as easy men might think for them to \u2018jump up and say hello\u2019 in a crowded room, anyway,\u201d says Bowen, who has been in the business for more than 12 years and has, presumably, seen it all.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t lay eyes on another guest for too long, either.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anybody is overtly gawking, we send them up to Tampa, which seems to have more strip clubs than any other city in Florida,\u201d says Bowen.<\/p>\n

Is everyone nude all the time?<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can be nude if you want to, but you don\u2019t have to. Women can wear a wrap or bottoms if they don\u2019t want to be completely naked while walking around. Some wear only a netted covering. You can dress to your own comfort level,\u201d according to Bowen, and, for sanitary reasons, staffers make sure no one sits naked on anything without a towel between them and a chaise lounge or dining room chair.<\/p>\n

Now that we know the no-no\u2019s, what can guests do at Caliente?<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can have the same fun you\u2019d have at any other resort, but just more of it here,\u201d says Bowen. \u201cWe have theme parties, sports, nude volleyball on sand or in water, nude tennis, swimming, kayaking, Zumba and yoga.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nude yoga? Wouldn\u2019t the \u201cdownward dog\u201d pose be a little awkward in a room full of naked people?<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, 99-percent of the people do wear clothes for yoga,\u201d she admits.<\/p>\n
