Sitting poolside with a view of the sea I enjoyed listening to the rapid rise-and-roll rhythm of Italian language as a man and his children talked nearby. God I wish I could speak Italian \u2013 it seems like so much fun and sounds so stylish! I can manage some Spanish and a little functional French, which both served me well on this visit to, not the Mediterranean, but rather,\u00a0Miami! South Florida has always been known for its\u2019 Cuban\/Latin American flair, but there are many merrymakers from the\u00a0United Kingdom\u00a0and Europe meandering in\u00a0Miami Beach.<\/p>\n

\u201cMiami is a true \u2018gateway city\u2019 with an international mix,\u201d said Mike Manzari, general manager of the Marriott Stanton South Beach, the beachfront hotel just a few steps from a handful of Gelato shops in which I couldn\u2019t help but try out what little Italian I do know when sampling spoonfuls of\u00a0stracciatella or sette veli.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa Locanda,\u201d a trattoria just around the corner on\u00a0Washington Ave, is a favorite of Michigander Brad Goldman and his wife Tracy, who visit the\u00a0Marriott\u00a0Stanton\u00a0South\u00a0Beach\u00a0multiple times each year. Goldman, a sales manager at a Grand Blanc car dealership, sometimes brings his wife and sons and on other occasions with friends and finds the\u00a0Stanton\u00a0suitable for both types of trips.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though The Stanton is just blocks from the action and nightlife of\u00a0South\u00a0Beach, we have a great residential feel,\u201d said Manzari, who, himself, spent two years working in\u00a0Michigan\u2019s hotel industry. The international feel is undeniable, too, so Manzari is currently developing a Japanese restaurant and a Mexican taqueria inside The Stanton. His rare location as a\u00a0South\u00a0Beach,\u00a0Ocean Drive\u00a0hotel actually on the beach puts him in a competitive neighborhood. Historic, world famous Joe\u2019s Stone Crab is a stone\u2019s throw away and is still the hottest table in town – a bucket-list restaurant where you’ll see both tuxedoed waiters and celebrities in shorts; and Red, The Steakhouse \u2013 favored by former Detroit Lion Ken Dallafior fromBrighton\u00a0\u2013 is within walking distance, too.<\/p>\n

DecoBike operates CitiBike, a convenient, bicycle-sharing system that offers 30-minutes of free use, over and over, from about 50 automated kiosks around South Beach, allowing guest to avoid South Beach\u2019s traffic and parking issues \u2013 not to mention the effects of a \u201cCall a Cab\u201d frozen drink at Wet Willie\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Going to cool clubs like The Clevelander; Mango\u2019s; and The News Caf\u00e9 on\u00a0Deco Drive\u00a0is fun, and cooling your heels with a tropical drink at The Stanton\u2019s beachfront pools, Jacuzzi and terrace caf\u00e9 is a sweet retreat.<\/p>\n
