The MSU football team had been back in what\u2019s billed America\u2019s Finest City for the 2017 Holiday Bowl, and I decided it was time to revisit the area, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">I\u2019d heard the Mission Bay Resort had renovated and re-opened as a \u201cbeach chic\u201d waterfront property with definite Southern California theming and cultural cuisine. I found the property to be dotted with palm trees shading areas around a free form swimming pool and Jacuzzis with adjacent fire pits. The Plaza Del Sol patio has festive strings of lights and Solrisa Mexican poolside stand offers a ritual as the sun sets over the bay (and Sea World.)<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-7103-mi-lansing-C1051-native-article_link-travel-2\" class=\"gnt_x_sl gnt_x_al\">\n<div id=\"attachment_2519\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/traveltattler\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2020\/11\/unnamed-e1605294923689.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2519\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2519\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2519\" src=\"http:\/\/theaposition.com\/traveltattler\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/34\/2020\/11\/unnamed-e1605294923689.jpg\" alt=\"Spartan Martin Molina\" width=\"640\" height=\"790\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2519\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Spartan Martin Molina moved to San Diego but boats with a Spartan sail. (Photo by Harrison Shiels)<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">That bay is not just for beauty: Mission Bay Resort\u2019s on-property marina offers plenty of watersports rentals ranging from wave runners to sailboats. The most surprising sailboat spotted on the bay is a green and white beauty named \u201cSparty On\u201d with a big mainsail bearing the Spartan logo. It\u2019s owned and captained by attorney Martin Molina who earned a bachelor\u2019s in criminalistics at Michigan State University in 1989 but now lives in San Diego.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-7103-mi-lansing-C1051-native-article_link-travel-3\" class=\"gnt_x_sl gnt_x_al\">\u201cI wanted to show my pride and gratitude for my days at MSU,\u201d Molina told me over al fresco fish tacos with a panorama of the Pacific in view during lunch at George\u2019s on the Cove in nearby La Jolla. The Cove, with its playful (but smelly) croaking sea lions lounging on the rocks above an underwater park for snorkelers and divers is a cool place to chill and below a street of shops, art galleries and restaurants and small hotels on the cliffside above.<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<div class=\"gnt_x_sl gnt_x_al\">\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Centrally-located Mission Bay Resort is near La Jolla and provides easy access to lots of San Diego\u2019s attractions including its world class zoo; downtown\u2019s Gaslamp Quarter; Coronado Island; PGA Tour venue the Torrey Pines Golf Course; and the Mexican restaurants and mercados of the Old Town Heritage area.
