The PGA Tour now moves to Japan and the Yokohama Country Club which was founded in 1960 and over the following six years architect Takeo Aiyama designed and built both the East and West 18-hole courses. The West course hosted the 1978 Japan Open, which was one of the first professional tournament won by Seve Ballesteros.
In 2014 the West underwent a major redesign which was undertaken by Coore & Crenshaw, with design associate Toby Cobb acting as construction manager on the project. The redesign and upgrade involved raising the height of all the tees and fairway, this helped enhance the natural undulations of the land, along with remodelling the bunkers making the natural undulations even more dramatic.
