Golf is coming to the Summer Olympics in 2016, but have you heard that the Olympic Committee is bringing in figure-skating style judges to be rules officials during the event? All Olympic golfers will now have to brush up in many areas because not only will their scores count, they’ll also be awarded strokes or have them deducted based on technique, artistry, compulsory fundamentals and innovation in course management style. Bad swings, improper grips, and awkward stances will all be counted toward total score.
What golfer would wish to be scrutinized so thoroughly and completely? It is bad enough that figure skaters are dissected with unyielding scrutiny in the ever-present quest for perfection. Not only that, because past performance plays so heavily into judging, a John Daly-type winner could never emerge – certainly a puzzling scoring method.
