The European tour is back this week and pitches up for the second year at the Robert Trent Jones Jr designed Enhance Anting Golf Club, which was founded in 2005. The golf club is situated in the north of Shanghai, in the centre of the country’s car industry. Jones Jr has done a magnificent job integrating the course with the natural landscape, emphasising nature, while masking the surrounding industrial landscape with the use of mounding round the periphery of the course.
The land before the course was build was fairly flat and featureless, but was bisected by numerous water channels and bordered along one side by the Wu-Song River. The challenge that Trent Jones Jr faced was to create a course from virtually nothing, and he has managed to turn these conditions to his advantage, by expanding the water channels to create a golf course that is both complex and rich in beauty and strategic elements.
