As threatened, I did another Literary Cocktail Hour recently, via the Brattleboro Literary Festival, speaking with Michael Patrick Cullinane about his new book, Theodore Roosevelt and His Tennis Cabinet.
It was a pretty fascinating hour, as Michael is steeped in Rooseveltiana. He’s the Walton Chair of Theodore Roosevelt Studies at Dickinson State University. He also serves as a Public Historian for the Theodore Roosevelt Association and he contributed to the design and curation of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, recently in the news as it just opened in North Dakota and was visited by the current occupant of the White House, who as I say in the video, is decidedly not a tennis player.
How do you actually run a Presidency? TR managed a lot of it after vigorous rounds of tennis at the White House with all sorts of players, some members of his actual cabinet, some with government positions, some ad hoc. Michael explains it all in his book and in this hour, now up for all eternity–or at least as long as YouTube links prevail:
