Ping's new i20 iron
Lee Westwood, the world’s No. 2 ranked player, said recently about Ping Golf’s new i20 irons:
“Satin finish. Looks like a blend of the i15s and the Anser irons,” said Westwood, who has been hitting the i20 irons for the past few months.
Westwood is a long-time Ping staffer, so you expect the praise. But the fact is, Ping makes the most consistent irons (in the I Series and G Series) in the industry, meaning the i20 irons are worthy of such praise from inside and outside the Ping Golf family. The I Series of irons generally are aimed at better players while the G Series is aimed at higher handicap players, but Ping Golf, through the i20 irons and their tungsten-toe weightings, has created an I Series that higher handicap players can play.
The i20 irons feature multi-metal technology in a progressive set design. Ping says the long irons are slightly larger, high launching, and more forgiving. The smaller short irons feature less offset and provide better control. Stabilizing bars and a thicker face, the company says, ensure precise distance control and a solid feel.
The i20 irons are available in 3-PW, UW, SW and LW in Ping’s CFS steel shaft ($110 per club) and in the TFC 169i graphite shaft ($137.50 per club).
