Nike Golf to debut new Method Concept putter in February

Nike Golf's new Method Concept putter

In case you’ve never thought of a putter as piece of art, don’t worry, Nike Golf has you covered. The company says its new Method Concept putter “blends art with science” without sacrificing performance that Nike Method technology delivers – a smoother stroke and a truer roll with far less skid.

Nike Golf says the art is in the putter’s shape – it has the appearance of a blade but plays like a mallet. The red front (that looks like the same as Tiger Woods’ Sunday best shirt) and strong black back design should stick out on TV and on retail shelves when it becomes available Feb. 17. The Method Concept putter is expected to carry a shelf price of $199 for standard length and $229 for length of 41 and 43 inches.

The face of the putter, according to Nike Golf, weighs only 90 grams (that’s the blade part) while the body weighs 200 grams (that’s the mallet part). Nike Golf says the combination results in a  high MOI-to-head ratio putter with a small mallet footprint.  While the Nike Method Concept has a small mallet footprint, the company says it provides the stability of the largest mallets in the game.

As with the Nike Method putter franchise, the Method Concept also features Nike’s polymetal groove technology it says generates a faster forward roll at impact.

“We are giving consumers something new and something better,” said David Franklin, Master Model Maker, Nike Golf.  “There’s a reason the shape is the way it is. It allows us to infuse vital science and powerful technology that delivers a very high MOI in a relatively small package.”

Steve, seems all of the putting buzzwords are there. Wonder what it’s going to be like to look down on this and try and sink a putt.

So the picture in Jim Frank’s article shows the view looking down. Looks a lot easier to putt with that way.
