Nike Golf launches ambitious NG360 app (Video)

Nike Golf has taken the golf app and web site to the next level with the introduction of Nike Golf 360 (NG360). The company launched NG360 this evening at its Oven research center in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod Touch or at www.iTunes.com/appstore/, the NG360 is designed as a digital tool to help players improve, track and share their games.

Nike Golf's new NG360 app

The NG360 App allows golfers to track their rounds to see how they stack up; improve their swing techniques with the help of coaches; and view and implement athletic training workouts that are golf-specific.

The “My Body” training workouts are the most unique component of the NG360 as it highlights Nike Golf’s partnership with the Gray Institute, a leader in Applied Functional Science.  The Gray Institute has developed the NG360 Functional Performance System that is tailored to golf movements that the body makes, which Nike Golf says is a clear distinction from other training systems.

“A whole new attitude about how we take care of the golfer,” said Gary Gray, founder of the Gray Institute and one of the leading athletic trainers in the country. “We’ve created an environment that empowers the golfer to be the best he or she can.”

The “My Body” workouts feature 30-second to two-minute training routines with Nike Golf athletes that focus on golf specific exercises.

“Nike Golf understands the game better than anybody else in the world; we understand the swing better; and we also understand the human body,” Gray said.

The key components that make up version one of the app are:

My Game: Golfers can track their game by keeping statistics such as their scoring average, driving accuracy, greens in regulation and average putts per round. “My Game” allow golfers to see how they stack up by monitoring results and beating their personal bests.

My Swing: Golfers can upload and compare video of their golf swing to their friends and Nike Golf athletes.  They can also receive personal coaching from Nike Swoosh Staff members who are PGA Teaching Professional instructors.  Swoosh Staff members can provide feedback and swing tips through a video swing analysis tool.

My Gear: Golfers can navigate products on the website that are suitable to their needs, while also receiving product recommendations from the Nike Swoosh Staff.  Golfers can also upload the contents of their bags in the “What’s in their Bag” section.  “My Gear” will increasingly become more robust as the NG360 App evolves.

“One thing Nike does very well – outside of innovation – is it understands the consumer. In our case it’s the golfer and looking at that in terms of macro-trends and where the world is going,” Nike Golf President Cindy Davis told me today at the Oven. “There’s no secret about what’s happening from a digital standpoint and easy-access standpoint.

“We were one of the ones that made an early step to really start connecting with consumers through different mediums. So all the traditional mediums you still see our brands, but where we’re really connecting now is through the whole social media piece. This app is whole new way to engage consumers for the future.”
