First let me congratulate the European Ryder Cup team captain Thomas Bjorn and especially the all the players from both Europe and the USA, who showed that while you can be ultra-competitive you can still have great sportsmanship. That too applies to all the fans especially that magnificent stand around the first tee, who showed passionate support but as soon as the players stepped up to the ball – be they European or a US player – there was total silence, you were all truly a credit to our sport.

The home of golf will see some of the best players in the world turn up to compete in this weeks Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The players will be competing on the hollowed turf that is St Andrews, but also Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, three of the best courses in Fife. All three are in Golf Monthly’s Top 100 courses of Great Britain and Ireland, only Kingbarns is just outside the Top 10 at number eleven.
