The Greg Norman designed Tiburón Golf Club plays host to the revamped Grant Thornton Invitational, which is a three-day event in teams of two, one male and one female competitor from the PGA, Ladies European and LPGA Tours, playing three different formats. Fridday is a Scramble, Saturday is Foursomes and Sunday is a modified Four-ball, where both players tee off, and then they switch balls for their second shots and play that same ball until it is holed out.
The Black course is a beauty and beast set up, with some spectacular views, but if you miss the fairways – which are a mixture of wide, tight, tree lined, water lined or with sand and waste areas forming the boundaries – you certainly pay the price. Water comes into play on 15 holes and including the waste areas, there are around 50 sand traps situated near the landing zones or greenside.
