Positioning your ball in the middle of the clubface may NOT be your best approach.
If you are experiencing difficulty making solid hits, you may want to check your ball position at address. More specifically, are you lining the ball up in the middle of the clubface? Many golfers do and if works for you, don’t change a thing, but if it doesn’t here is something you might try.
Position the ball more in line with the toe or outer half of your club. As you swing the club, the laws of physics and specifically centrifugal force come into play. That weight as the end of your arms and club will ever so slightly stretch your arms and put the clubface a fraction further from your body. Thus the sweetspot on the clubface has moved slightly away from where you assumed it to be address. At impact, the ball will then more often find the sweet spot.
Again, if you are a superb ball-striker, don’t change, but if you are not, slightly positioning the ball more opposite the toe of your club may be the right medicine. Watch the pros. Many of them do this.
Position your ball at address more slightly toward the toe of your club.
