  • The Big Picture: Toronto Beckons with Cinema, Golf and a Retro-Chic Hotel

If there’s an international destination that’s been taken for granted or treated lightly by the typical American campaigner, it’s Canada. Let’s skip the silly jokes about the ‘frozen north,’ eh? Let’s get right to the stats. Hockey, which is played with near-religious fervor by Canadians, was surpassed 10 years ago by golf as the sport of choice. The participation rate—roughly 20% of the Canadian population plays golf—is one of the highest in the world. (Perhaps that is why Canadians on average live nearly three years longer than Americans). Toronto, Canada's largest metropolis, claims the title as North America’s (and maybe the world's) ...

  • From Mombasa Street Kids to Certified Caddies

Maybe it’s because I got my start in golf as a teenage caddie. Maybe it’s because when I visited Kenya 30 years ago, I saw lots of poor kids running barefoot around the rural villages south of Nairobi. This year’s major-champion winners will face off at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda Oct. 18 – 20 in a 36-hole stroke play event. Kaymer, a native of Dusseldorf and the first German to capture a major championship since Bernhard Langer won the 1993 Masters, continues the trend of first-time major champions. In ...

The way he’s swinging, he could be winning with a bag of broomsticks, but TaylorMade tour staff pro Edoardo Molinari relied on the company's newest equipment to finish birdie-birdie-birdie at Gleneagles in Scotland over the weekend, erasing a two-shot deficit to earn his second European Tour win. The victory secured a place for Molinari on Europe’s 2010 Ryder Cup. The 29-year-old Italian star was selected as one of three captain’s picks to compete at Celtic Manor in Wales in October.  He will also move into the top-20 in the Official World Golf rankings for the first time in his career. “I ...
