USGA Adds Bunker to Olympic Fewer than Two Months Before U.S. Open

In this piece by Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle, it is revealed how the USGA has added a bunker to the Olympic Club’s Lakes Course  par-5 17th hole with work starting last Thursday and ending on Saturday. According to the article that can be read by clicking here, the USGA paid for the installation and will pay for its removal if club members don’t like it.

“I think it’s going to be dramatic,” Olympic Club superintendent Pat Finlen told Kroichick.
