Lots of stuff taking place at Cog Hill these days.
On my sports business blog for Crain’s, I wrote about the facility hiring a new superintendent. Scott Pavelko, who worked at Jack Nicklaus’ Muirfield Village, is coming on board. He will work with long-time super Ken Lapp, who becomes director of grounds.
Also, Frank Jemsek disclosed he is cutting back on his duties and will let daughter Katherine handle the business operation at Cog Hill. Frank has undergone six operations in less than two years due to complications from knee replacement surgery. He’s feeling better now, but he believes the time is right to let Katherine run the bulk of the show.
On the ratings front, Golfweek had Cog Hill No. 4 ranked No. 1 in Illinois among “best courses you can play.” The course ranked 88th among best new courses.
