A lot has changed since January 2015 when Bob Parsons, the founder of GoDaddy.com introduced, Parsons Xtreme Golf and a line of ultra-expensive clubs. How expensive? In case it has slipped your mind a full bag of the initial models would set you back more than $5,000.
Parsons was called foolish, a dreamer and a disruptor but six years later he and his company are still in the market and still producing premium priced clubs with premium materials and design. The question is are they worth it and of course that’s an individual decision but it does seem PXG is having some new thoughts about growing their business and the premium pricing of their products.
This has been evident for a few months with discounts of clubs both on their website and at their authorized retailers, but the newest club family introduction has moved PXG from the top of the price spectrum to nearly the bottom. For example, the 2021 0211 Driver is listed for $375 but discounted to $295. By comparison, a 2021 Callaway Golf Big Bertha B-21 lists for $500 and there is no discount nor is there one for this year’s Cobra Golf’s Radspeed driver carrying a retail of $449.
Many times, we have brought our readers attention to the pricing strategy used by Tour Edge Golf, marketing high performance clubs at very golfer-friendly prices such as the 2021 Hot Launch E521 and C521 model drivers with price tags of $230.
Doing the math, a full bag of the new PXG 2021 0211s comes in at just over $2,000 depending on the set make up, which is quite a difference from the original pricing.
The question then has PXG forsaken the ultra-premium pricing which meant competition with the largest equipment companies such as Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade and Cobra or are they looking to go against less pricey competition? Interesting to contemplate and it may simply be PXG trying to expand the breadth of potential customers. One clue may be publicity for the new line uses the tag line, “The Science of Sexy.”
