Last year’s Stealth irons were TaylorMade’s solution for those needing a game-improvement iron and their new Stealth HD have been tweaked that design to accommodate players looking for a super game-improvement type such as seniors who generate less clubhead speed.
The center of gravity is very low in the head moving upward as lofts increase and is a major factor in producing high trajectory shots especially for moderate to slow swingers. Both distance and trajectory are aided by the smaller radius leading edge and wide sole that help with turf interaction. Not to overlooked from the ball-launch discussion though is the HDs are two degrees weaker than the original Stealth a real help for seniors. The ball goes higher and therefore covers additional yards compared with lower lofted irons hit without higher swing speed
The Cap Back hollow head has been around for a couple of years and helps with proper location of weight and dampening of vibration.
“In working with players in this category, we exhausted all optimization tools to determine the ideal loft for each iron in the set,: said Matt Bovee, Director Product Creation Irons. “Incorporating higher lofts was done purposefully and with intent. Our goal was to provide as much launch and spin as possible without sacrificing distance, and what we found was this design strategy often led to increased carry distance for the developing golfer when compared to traditional super game improvement irons with stronger lofts. By combining this totally unique construction with our existing technologies, we created a high launching, easy-to-hit iron with surprisingly exceptional feel.”
