The new 24x series of forged irons from Mizuno replaces the previous 22x models from two years ago with what the company calls “significant improvements.”

Most recreational golfers will want to look at the Pro 245 model since they are a hollow construction designed for added forgiveness compared to irons made for better players which are more difficult to hit. The 2-iron down through the 7-iron have interior tungsten weighting while the 9-iron through gap wedge have smaller heads.

Chris Voshall, Mizuno Product Director, said in the press announcement, “There are some impressive ball speed gains in the Mizuno Pro 245, considering we’ve slimmed it down – especially in the longer irons. The biggest challenge for people now is telling this iron apart from the one-piece Mizuno Pro 241 muscle-back.”

Mizuno also introduced the hollow-body Pro Fli-Hi iron created as substitute for those not wishing to hit hybrids in 2-, 3- and 4-iron lofts priced at $250 each.

David Llewellyn R&D Director commented that “Hybrid type irons generally use a flat sheet metal for the face – but upgrading to a heat-treated 4335 Nickel Chromoloy allowed us to incorporate a faster multi-thickness face and off-set face weld.”
