Ping reduced the overall weight of the G440 clubheads, increased the shaft length, thinned the face and lowered the center of gravity to improve performance and deliver more energy to the ball.
Lighter is good as is a longer shaft. Both can produce more yardage if they can be controlled to reduce dispersion without sacrificing forgiveness or hitability which Ping says they have accomplished with the G440 series.
Heads and shafts of the G440 were reduced by a total of 10g which is a significant amount when compared to the G430 models of last year.
“Our pursuit of helping golfers play better and enjoy the game more advances to an even higher level with the introduction of the G440 family,” said John K. Solheim, PING CEO & President. “Through multiple technologies across all the product categories, the next generation of our ‘G’ franchise is delivering more speed and more distance while ensuring the forgiveness expected from every PING club. The powerful combination of distance and forgiveness yields maximum performance when golfers are properly fitted. We see that every day in our testing, and we’re excited to get the G440 into the hands of golfers so they can enjoy the same benefits.”
Another major change while reducing the club’s weight was to lower the center of gravity. This means lower spin, more ball speed and higher launch especially towards the heel where most of us tend to have our mishits.
Following along with the industry trend, pricing of the G440s is $50 more for the MAX and SFT versions and $20 for the LST.
