Dustin Johnson Looks on as TheAPosition Journalist Nails Bunker Shot

Having Dustin Johnson watch us today as we played Shadow Creek, the week after we followed his play at Whistling Straits, was just a little bit of added pressure.  But for my colleague Jeff Wallach, playing the out of the bunker on the 17th hole, executing an almost perfect sand shot looked like a walk in the park. It was merely enhanced by the presence of Johnson, on the adjacent tee, giving Jeff’s shot an admiring look.

Jeff executed an almost perfect bunker shot that carried the perfect distance and rolled to within 5 feet of the pin.  We also watched Dustin and Rickie Fowler as they drove the greens with 3 woods on the 290 yard par 4 15th.

Shadow Creek is an absolutely stunning course which is even more remarkable when you think that the tree lined, soft rolling green hills, beautiful streams and dramatic downhill par 3’s were all carved out of a completely flat, rock hard desert.  The knowledge, hospitality and service of all the staff was above and beyond expectations.
