Callaway launches RAZR X Black Driver

Callaway Golf’s new RAZR X Black Driver is now available with a retail price of $249. It’s one of Callaway’s best-looking drivers, featuring what the company calls a black Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) Finish.

Like the RAZR Fit driver, the RAZR X driver’s crown is made of Forged Composite, an advanced carbon composite material that Callaway developed over several years in partnership with Italian automaker Automobili Lamborghini. Callaway says it is “the lightest, strongest, most precise material” either company has ever employed, and allows its engineers to precisely design a club head that produces optimal launch and spin characteristics for greater distance.

The RAZR X Black Driver also features Callaway’s Speed Frame Face Technology, which melds the company’s Variable Face Thickness (VFT) and Hyperbolic Face technologies to create a larger sweet spot and, the company says, increased ball speeds across the titanium face.

This new face technology, according to Callaway, also features a more lightweight design than implemented previously, allowing its engineers to move the saved weight to a position that better optimizes ball flight. Additionally, Callaway says extensive research in aerodynamics have resulted in Streamlined Surface Technology, which, when applied to the RAZR X Black Driver, reduces energy loss from head drag during the downswing by 17 percent (compared to RAZR X Black’s predecessor, the Diablo Octane Driver). Callaway says this leads to higher impact speeds and additional distance off the tee.
