More evidence of the demise of Adams Golf? Long-time Adams Golf staffer (and legend) Tom Watson has signed with Callaway Golf to play Callaway clubs and ball, as well as an Odyssey putter. At age 66, the eight-time major champion likely won’t attract a younger demographic to Callaway products, but anytime you can add a class act like Watson, it’s a plus for your company.
On the subject of Adams Golf, look for its parent – TaylorMade-adidas Golf – to have a reduced booth presence at this month’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando compared to the massive space it occupied the past several years in the Orange County Convention Center. TMaG’s freewheeling and free-spending days are history in the wake of its sales troubles and announcement this past summer that parent adidas Group is looking to sell all or parts of its golf unit.
