Oh yeah, our name. Obviously it’s a nod to the fact that the equipment you play affects your shotmaking, your overall performance and even the swing motion you make (trust us, it’s the arrow and the indian). Gear effect is also a fun fact about the golf ball’s spin dynamics on a toe hit with your driver or 3-wood, especially if the club’s face has a fair amount of horizontal bulge (the curve along the face from heel to toe). Picture this: impact is out at the toe, the ball becomes a fulcrum of sorts, slowing the toe down and speeding the heel up. That causes the clubhead to turn clockwise very slightly. Like two meshed gears, the toe section of the clubface and the ball turn or spin in opposite directions. For the ball, that means a counter-clockwise spin motion, otherwise known as hook spin. The ball starts out right and curves back on the fairway. Gear effect to the rescue!
