Cordial CordeValle

Just minutes from the high-tech circuitry California’s Silicon Valley, CordeValle Resort and Golf Club presents an island of tranquility isolated from the bustle of urban life. More than just a great golf course, CordeValle is a five-star retreat offering matchless concierge service to members and guests. Unlike most upscale private courses, CordeValle allows members to send unaccompanied guests out to play the course. Guests of the property’s Rosewood Hotel also enjoy playing privileges, in addition to exceptional service and a world-class spa and restaurant.

The golf course matches the elegance and refinement of the lodging. By preserving most of the course’s ample acreage in its natural state, and threading holes through the lower portions of the site, architect Robert Trent Jones II preserved dozens of extraordinary ancient oaks and sycamores along the central creeks that drain surrounding hills. Aside from the hotel, only vineyards and estate homes in the far distance are visible to golfers.

The front nine begins with a par four, a par three, and a par five, and sustains this appealing tempo throughout. CordeValle’s bunkers recall the classic styling of such great California courses as Cypress Point and San Francisco Golf Club. The bold faces of the greenside bunkers are visible from the tees, even on par fives. The course culminates in a par five on which the ideal drive stops short of a creek and players face a choice between laying up and preserving an almost certain par, or going for the green in two and possibly scoring birdie or eagle.  Or double bogey.

As both private club and resort, CordeValle is peerless among recently designed courses in northern California, and provides a world-class golf experience for members and guests alike. A caddie program complements the enjoyment of walking the low, rolling layout, which has the ambiance of a timeless traditional golf club. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. calls it “one of those pure ‘core golf’ experiences.”

CordeValle is quickly becoming known as one of Northern California’s “must play” course. In October, they will become host site of the Frys.com Open on the PGA Tour and in 2011, will host the PGA Cup Matches, the bi-annual Ryder Cup for PGA Club Professionals.
