My picks to win:
It’s hard not to pick Luke Donald 9/1, but the odds are rubbish to be fair, so I am going with the lad he battled with in the final round at Wentworth last week, Justin Rose 16/1. I am not sure how the flight will effect his game, but Justin does seem to be on the cusp of going on a very good run, it’s a title he’s won before and lost in a play-off, so it’s a track he enjoys playing.
Another good week at the Crowne Plaza Invitational saw Rickie Fowler 18/1 finish in the Top-5, that’s his third in a row and his forth straight Top-10 finish. Rickie finished runner-up here in 2010 and is on a hot streak, I hope he keeps that going all the way to the US Open.
Last week didn’t finish as well as Bo Van Pelt 35/1 would have liked with his final round 75, but Bo is back on a course he seems to enjoy playing, he finished in the Top-15 last year, but also has two other Top-5 finishes here.
My each-way picks:
It looks like Louis Oosthuizen 50/1 is starting to come back into form after last weeks Top-20 finish at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, he managed that with a final round 73. Louis is gearing himself up for the US Open and will want to do well in the events leading up to the Olympic Club.
Ryan Moore 50/1 is another player who went backwards at last weeks Crowne Plaza Invitational with a final round 74, but Ryan has had three Top-10 finishes in his previous 5 events, he was runner-up here in 2007 so it’s a course he enjoys playing.
This weeks outside bet has to be Branden Grace 100/1, these are great odds for someone who’s won three times this season and coming on the back of a fifth place at last weeks BMW PGA Championship. I know he’s not done anything on the PGA Tour so far, but it’s only a matter of time.
