This year’s Australian Open Championship moves back to The Lakes Golf Club which was established in 1928. Architects Eric Apperly and Tom Howard were commissioned to design two golf courses, one public and one private course in the sandhills fronting Gardeners Road in Kingsford, Sydney.

The lake was part of the old Sydney water supply and the championship course was designed around the lake so it would become an integral part of the design. The public course had to open simultaneously as the Lakes Course and is known as Eastlake Links.
