The European tour added a new tournament last year to the schedule which is held over the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates a week before the World Tour Championship, which is played over the Earth Course.
The Fire course opened for play in January 2010, designed by Greg Norman in more of an open links style course and uses different grasses to the Earth course, with some subtle elevations changes and undulations that work with the natural desert landscape. The native grasses display a golden glint in the sunlight and the large terracotta bunkers punctuate the rolling desert terrain.
The course is framed by a wide variety of flora, which have been carefully selected to reflect the overall theme and to enhance the natural setting, undulating topography and stunning natural features.
