Tiger Woods new swing will get an airing this week when he tees it up at the Frys.com Open at the CordeValle Golf Club, a track designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr just south of San Jose, California
Woods has now slipped out of the Worlds Top 50 players and has not won a tournament for nearly two years after a season dogged by injury and a loss of form.
Tiger managed to finish in a tie for fourth at this years Masters but it was all downhill from there. He missed both the US Open and the Open Championship through injury and then missed the cut at the USPGA Championship. A lack of tournament golf and poor results has meant that the 14-time major winner did not qualify for the FedEx Cup play-offs.
Rocco Mediate has given Woods a vote of confidence and believes he will become an even better player. The Frys.Com Open defending champion feels that once Woods can sort out his swing, then he will once again, be the player to beat.
“It’s the physical motion that’s causing the problem, period,” he stated. “If he gets his golf swing back, the ball game is over. Trust me, he knows that once he figures out where his ball is going, it’s over. He’s already proved it 71 times, in 14 majors. I think he can be better than he was before.”
I can understand why Tiger is teeing it up this week, he wants to see his swing in competition mode, and he needs to know that the new swing will hold up under pressure coming down the stretch. Whether there is enough competition in this field to give him that pressure only time will tell, but if you check out my betting guide, I don’t see Tiger making the top five this week.
