Fame Is Overrated!

Fame Is Overrated.

It’s been the background noise I’ve long encountered with my clients taking them from success to significance.

Yes, many and perhaps all of us may have fantasized about being famous, and for some it’s a strategy toward abundance, but it’s not it’s all it is made out to be unless you have an insatiable ego.

This is especially true for creative sorts – artists, musicians, writers – almost anyone who creates whether it be a basketball play, a pitch, maneuvering a golf ball or building an organization. It can even grab ordinary folks.

I’ve never been famous and nor do I now hope to be, but I’ve spent quality time with some who are or have been. It’s perhaps one of the most overriding concerns or problems my clients face. Fame is no picnic. Forget the constant invasions of privacy and demands on your time.. You are at risk of kidnapping, robbery, extortion, and just plain used for your social status in love and business. It comes with responsibilities too.

With fame comes a reputation to manage. Managing it takes away from what likely got you famous in the first place. Soon perpetuating fame takes priority over everything. It feeds on its host leaving little room or time for the creativity itself. The flame that you may have long identified has now only secondary relevance to the new famous you that has burst forth.

Take the artist. Their work is their golden goose; the artist becomes famous for his art. That is what gives him or her value and justifies their position. But the fame takes priority over the art and then the art suffers and so the art goes away. The goose is starved.

Creativity should be a constant process of growth and evolution.

If you seek fame, consider ahead of time how you will keep your creative spark and energy alive, and your core values intact.

P.S. Not all fame is bad. It can be leveraged into new and exciting, perhaps even noble pursuits on a bigger scale. Just remember that with it comes new priorities and circumstances. Wealth and abundance, and even more importantly happiness and fulfillment may not be among them if you don’t stay grounded and aware!
