The National Golf Foundation published the results of two recent surveys, one on the time it takes to play a round of golf and the second on golfers’ attitudes about having their clubs properly fit.
Golf courses responding to the first survey said the pace of play at their facilities was 4 hours and 17 minutes for 18 holes. Private course play was4:06, public course4:22and 13% said there average was over4:30. Roughly half of a representative sample of core golfers said their pace of play “pain point” was4:25and 30% said the national average of4:17was too long.
Regarding custom fitting of new clubs, 56% of core golfers reported they were “extremely” or “very likely” to be fit for their next driver and almost as likely for their next set of irons. Many see the benefit as well that comes from playing the ball that properly matches their swing characteristics.
Concerning the advisability of having clubs that may be adjusted by the player – sort of self-service fitting – they think it is less important than having clubs (drivers) fit at time of purchase.
