In what seems like a move to cement relationships with confirmed Callaway players rather than to bypass companies in the burgeoning club fitting business, a phone consultation program has been initiated for a session with one of Callaway’s Master Fitters to set new club specifications.
A phone appointment is made by registering on the Callaway Distance Fitting website. Prior to the conversation with the fitter, which takes 30 minutes, a series of questions describing your game must be answered which are used by the fitter along with online questionnaires to zero in on the proper clubs. Callaway clubs of course. There are four questionnaires called Selector Tools: one each for drivers, fairway woods, irons, and wedges plus a fifth for the proper ball.
Michael Vrska heads the program as Director of Custom Fitting and Player Performance and in the announcement said: “Distance Fitting is providing golfers with an outstanding custom fitting experience from home. We’re already seeing how effective this program is at delivering a personalized and comprehensive fitting in just 30 minutes and getting players into the right equipment to help them play better golf.”
This is not the first online/phone club fitting program run by a major manufacturer, Ping has had WEBFIT for some time, and it is unlikely this new Callaway program will seriously challenge the major club fitters such as Club Champion or even local fitters who have a loyal following. All club fitters make use of Callaway clubheads creating a partnership that benefits both.
What Distance Fitting does though is for those who know Callaway is what they want to buy it lets them zero in on exactly the correct model.
