WYNTK P Series Irons:
The new P770s from TaylorMade Golf are similar in construction to the previous model P790s but with a slightly smaller clubhead and reconfigured back. It can be categorized as players distance iron built around a hollow body with a shorter blade length and thinner topline.
It uses the injected SpeedFoam we first saw in the P790 but in a lesser amount and the interior tungsten weight is a different shape. Overall, the forgiveness is less than the P790 though TaylorMade says the distance potential and control are enhanced.
According to Matt Bovee, Product Creation Irons Category for TaylorMade, “Designed to deliver P•790-like performance in a smaller package, the all-new P•770 leverages forged hollow body construction to pack as much distance and forgiveness as possible into a compact player’s shape.”
The P7MC and P7MB are for the small number of better players, professional and amateur, whose swings are so repeatable they can take advantage of the muscle back and muscle cavity design.
Bovee pointed out in the announcement, “The P•7MC was designed specifically to answer the needs of Tour players. Every detail on this perimeter weighted classic muscle cavity design has been painstakingly crafted to the highest quality. From the Compact Grain Forging to the cavity geometry designed specifically for a more solid feel. The P•7MC is the perfect combination of performance, feel and shot making with a hint of forgiveness.”
Look for players with a wide range of skill levels to make up mixed sets of the three models such as short irons of the P7MB transitioning to P7MC mid and long irons or even the P770 for 5-iron and above.
