American Triumvirate

In the world of golf the year 1912 was propitious, not especially because of John Ball’s eight British Amateur win or Johnny McDermott’s second straight win of the U.S. Open or even the fact Francis Ouimet on the doorstep of his phenomenalvictory in the 1913 U.S. Open.

It was the year in which improbably, the “American Triumvirate” of Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan allwere born.

In recognition and celebration the Golf Channel has produced an original documentary entitled American Triumvirate narrated by Kurt Russellfor airing  next Monday at 9:00 pm.

“When you had the three of them together, you had magic. They werelike freaks. I don’t even know where they came from, how they got so good, but if they were 28 years old right now – with the same games and just the new equipment – they’d stillbe kicking everybody’s butt.” – Johnny Miller

“We’re stilltalking about them today. Why? … These three gentlemen were the game of golf and they stillare today.” – Butch Harmon
