How hot is TaylorMade-adidas Golf? White hot. The company says it’s on track to sell more than one million white metal woods by end of the first quarter of this year, a milestone that wasn’t reached until well into the second quarter last year. Those sales include the new R11s line of metal woods as well as the new RocketBallz line of metal woods, the latter of which is expected to be among the hottest product lines in 2012.
“Tour players are going crazy about the performance of the R11S and RocketBallz metal woods,” said Keith Sbarbaro, TaylorMade’s vice president of tour operations. “In all of my years out here, I haven’t seen products that perform this good with the amount of buzz from the Tour players. At the Humana Challenge, we ran out of heads on the van because everyone wants one. I thought last year was crazy with white and R11, but this feels like the buzz is 10 times greater.”
According to Golf Datatech, which charts golf industry sell-in figures, TaylorMade’s metal wood market share in December 2011 exceeded 42 percent. According to Datatech numbers, the R11 was the top selling driver in 2011 based off of unit share and dollar share in the combined On and Off Course channels.
